TAKORADI POLYTECHNIC

 

ADMISSION OF APPLICANTS TO BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY, HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA AND DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES � 2012/2013 ACADEMIC YEAR

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following Programmes:

 

A.            BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMMES

               

Bachelor of Technology in Hospitality Management

                Bachelor of Technology in Tourism Management

                Bachelor of Technology in Industrial Art (Textiles Option)

                Bachelor of Technology in Procurement

                Bachelor of Technology in Printing

                               

SUMMARY OF ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

 

i.          BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT

          

HND graduates of Tourism Management, Hospitality Management and Marketing from Ghanaian Polytechnics or similar qualifications from recognized educational institutions with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division are qualified to apply.

 

ii.         BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT

 

HND graduates of Tourism or Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management, Marketing from Ghanaian Polytechnics or equivalent qualifications from recognized educational institutions with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division.

 

iii.            BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY IN INDUSTRIAL ART (TEXTILES OPTION)

 

Applicants must hold HND certificates in Commercial Art (Textiles) or HND (Fashion Design) of at least 2nd Class (Lower Division), from recognized tertiary institutions.

 

iv.            BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY IN PROCUREMENT

Applicants must hold HND certificates in Purchasing and Supply of at least 2nd Class (Lower Division), from recognized tertiary institutions

 

               

v.             BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY IN PRINTING

               

Applicants must hold HND certificates in Commercial Art (Graphics) of at least 2nd Class (Lower Division), from recognized tertiary institutions

               

 

Applicants in addition to the above should have at least two years post qualification working experience: Candidates with equivalent qualifications/certificates can seek clarification from the Office of the Registrar.

SUMMARY OF ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

 

(i)            SSSCE/WASSCE APPLICANTS

 

a.         Passes in English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and three relevant elective subjects. Departmental requirements are also considered.

 

b.         The aggregate score of the six subjects mentioned above must be Twenty-Four (24) (SSSCE scale) or Thirty-Six (36) (WASSCE scale) or better.

 

c.             Takoradi Polytechnic uses the new grading system of WASSCE for the selection of  candidates and with this system an aggregate of 36 is the minimum entry requirement for all programmes. The following table shows this new grading system and the SSSCE equivalent grades.

(ii)           GCE 'A' LEVEL APPLICANTS

Applicants must have five (5) G.C.E. 'O' Level passes in English Language, Mathematics and a  Science subject plus two(2) passes in relevant subjects and three (3) 'A' Level passes.

 

(iii)          MATURE APPLICANTS

�  Candidates must not be less than 25 years of age at the time of the submission of the application.

�  Candidates must have at least five (5) SSSCE/WASSCE passes or five (5) G.C.E. 'O' Level passes including English Language and Mathematics plus experience in relevant areas of study.

�  Candidates must pass a written examination in relevant subject area and an interview.

�  Applicants for the School of Engineering with Technician I & II certificates but without English Language and Mathematics must also pass English Language and Mathematics Examinations administered by the Polytechnic

 

NB: In all cases, candidates will be expected to meet School/Departmental requirements.

 

(iii)          OTHER APPLICANTS

 

�  School of Business Studies

Three (3) passes in General Commercial Certificate Examination (RSA III) OR Diploma in Business Studies (DBS) OR Diploma in Office Management (DOM)  organized by WAEC; plus English Language and Mathematics at  SSSCE/WASSCE,  plus two relevant electives.

 

 

�  Schools of Applied  Arts ,Applied Science and Engineering

Advanced Crafts; Technician Part II, Catering 812/2 plus English Language and Mathematics at SSSCE/WASSCE plus two relevant elective subjects.

 

NOTE: Candidates Awaiting Results should not Apply.

 

C.            HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES (EVENING SCHOOL)

Admission Requirements: Same as for programmes indicated under (B) above.

 

D.            TWO-YEAR DIPLOMA (EVENING SCHOOL) FOR WORKERS IN TOURISM INDUSTRY

 

Candidates Must:

a.       have at least four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes or four (4) G.C.E 'O' Level passes including English Language and Mathematics.

 

b.       have at least three years working experience in Tourism industry and

 

c.        pass a written examination and an interview.

 

E.            ACCESS/PRE-HND PROGRAMME FOR TECHNICAL/VOCATIONAL SCHOOL GRADUATES

 

 

i)              The above-named programme has been designed to provide opportunity to students with Technical/Vocational educational background to pursue a one-year Access Course in English Language, Mathematics and Science.

 

The Final Examination will be conducted by the National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) after which successful applicants shall proceed to enroll in the Higher National Diploma programme. For a candidate to qualify to be admitted to the HND programme he/she must obtain a minimum pass of 50% in each of the three (3) subjects namely: English Language, Mathematics and Science.

                One (1) Academic Year (i.e. two semesters of 16 weeks per semester).

 

iv)           Entry Requirements

Applicants should posses a minimum qualification of Intermediate or its equivalent.

H.            ONLINE ADMISSIONS INSTRUCTION

1. Go to http://admissions.tpoly.edu.gh on the internet after you purchase the Takoradi Polytechnic

    admissions documents

2. Log on to the Online Admissions System with the Scratch Card Number and PIN

3. Follow steps on the Online Admissions system to complete your application

4. A printed copy of your completed online application must be enclosed in your envelope before  

    posting together with photocopies of Certificates or Results slips and in the case of MATURE   

    Applicants, Birth Certificate, to be returned to: The Registrar, Takoradi Polytechnic, P. O. Box   

    256, Takoradi

5. An Envelope Number generated for on your completion of the online application must be        

    written at the back of the envelope before posting.

 

NOTE: ALL ADMISSIONS TO TAKORADI POLYTECHNIC IS STRICTLY VIA THE ONLINE ADMISSION SYSTEM:

 

Closing date for the submission of completed forms is Friday, 13th July, 2012.

Closing date for MATURE APPLICANTS is Friday, 1st June, 2012.

 

 I.             MATURE CANDIDATES ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Mature Candidates Entrance Examinations will be held on Thursday, 7th and Friday, 8th June, 2012 between the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. at Takoradi Polytechnic campus.
